System:
A system may be defined as a well defined region in space, which is considered for thermodynamic analysis.Thermodynamic system is classified into three categories.
- Closed system
- Open system
- Isolated system
Closed system:
It has a rigid boundary.Only heat transfer takes place and there will be no mass transfer in a closed system.
eg.: Electric bulb.
Open system:
Both heat and mass transfer take place.
eg.: Compressor, Turbine.
Isolated system:
No heat transfer and no mass transfer.Hence the internal energy of the system remains constant throughout the analysis.
eg.: Thermos flask.
